Heavy-lifters set up RollDock

ROTTERDAM 04 December – Three Dutch heavy-lift specialists have set up a new heavy-lift transport company by taking over two other companies in the same sector. Frans van Seumeren, who came to prominence at the time of the Kursk salvage when chief executive of Mammoet), Wout van der Zwam and Gerrit van Wingerden, have created Rolldock by acquiring van Wingerden’s VW Global Overseas of Willemstad, Netherlands and Zadeko Shipmanagement of Rotterdam. Global operates and Zadeko manages a fleet of four heavy-lift/ro-ro vessels of 3,500/4,500dwt (Ostara, Nordica, Askanta and Norlandia). Orders for a further four 8,250dwt heavy-lift vessels were placed at Larsen and Toubro in India in May this year. These ice-classed vessels have dimensions of 140m loa x 24m beam x 5.6m draught, and will get a cargo hold of 115m x 19m, suitable for vessels up to 7,000 tonnes with the float on/float off method and for lifts up to 5,000 tonnes with the ro-ro method. There will also be two cranes which can lift in tandem 700 tonnes. So far RollDock has invested $200M and obtained an option from the Indian yard for additional vessels. Van Seumeren will be chairman of RollDock’s Supervisory Board and Diederik Legger its managing director.
